Remember When
I am from my night stand next to my bed, From K’Nex and Play-Doh.
I am from the old building passed down from generation to generation, The smell of baked goods all day and night. I am from the maple trees, The rose bushes surrounding my house, Whose pickers always got stuck in my hands.
I’m from playing spoons at Christmas time and the smiles and laughter all around. From Linda and Damon. I’m from procrastinating and sitting at the table for dinner, And from sorting out difficult situations as a family.
I’m from “Don’t touch that” and “Drive safe,” And “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.” I’m from going to Grandma’s house for the holidays. I’m from Green Bay, WI and Germany, Austria, and Italy, Spaghetti and Pizza.
From my mom falling down the stairs and hurting her foot, We never got to go see our movie, Pictures of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, Hanging on every wall.
Reflection
I wrote this piece based off of going back into my past and picking out my most dominant memories. They might be small things that not many people would think of as they are growing up and looking back, but they are an important part of my life. They make me who I am and show where I come from.
